German Manufactured Argentine Mauser Model 1909 Artillery Short Sword with Scabbard

German Manufactured Argentine Mauser Model 1909 Artillery Short Sword with Scabbard

German Manufactured Argentine Mauser Model 1909 Artillery Short Sword with Scabbard. Original Item: Only One Available. This really is a very nice example of a German-manufactured Argentine Model 1909 Artillery Short Sword or Machete. Intended to be used by Argentine elite troops in the Argentine jungle and by the artillery, this fine example comes complete with its original scabbard.

What is special about this example is that the ARGENTINE CREST is still visible on the ricasso of the blade. These were ordered removed or defaced by Argentine Government order before Export so consequently those with crests are particularly RARE. There looks to have been no attempt to remove it, and the MODELO ARGENTINO 1909 marking is still intact and crisp.

The other side of the ricasso bears the German Bayonet maker’s name:

German Manufactured Argentine Mauser Model 1909 Artillery Short Sword with Scabbard

This company is a famous manufacturer of military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany - a city famous since the middle ages for its metal-working and craftsmanship in sword making. Per J. Anthony Carter's fine work GERMAN SWORD AND KNIFE MAKERS, the traditional manufacturing of swords at WKC dates back to the year 1774 when the Weyersberg first registered the ''Kings head'' as their trademark. Later in1883 the company merged with the Kirschbaums and the company WKC was formed as it exists today. It was heavily involved with exporting edged weapons to South American countries in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The short sword and scabbard are marked with matching serial number E02487.

This is one of the better examples we have seen. It just has a bit of light staining around the grip area, and the blade was never sharpened. With a visible crest, this really is a step above. The scabbard is also in great shape, with lots of the original bluing.
