BRITISH GUN MAKERS: THEIR TRADE CARDS CASES & EQUIPMENT 1760-1860 By W. Keith Neal and D.H.L. Back
Most British gunmakers between 1760 and 1860 possessed a trade card with the result that they provide a natural chronology of the trade, as well as being in themselves an example of the engraver’s art. Around 1790 they stopped being just business cards and were increasingly pasted inside the lid of a gun case. The authors have provided a photographic index of these cards, together with an historical account of the case and its content. They have produced a work of deep interest to all gun collectors but also have provided and essential work of reference for authentication and dating of firearms of the period.
